Our Trustees

Godric Smith

Godric was born and brought up in Cambridge and is a lifelong fan of Cambridge United.

He has worked in communications and strategy for the majority of his career including 10 years at Downing Street where he was the Prime Minister’s Official Spokesman and Director of Communications at London 2012. He now runs his own consultancy.

He has campaigned on mental health issues for many years including Chairing the Heads Up campaign in football on behalf of HRH the Prince of Wales.

Mike Davey

Mike has lived in Cambridge for the last 20 years, and in Abbey since 2009. He worked in the public sector and then for local voluntary sector organisations prior to becoming a City Cllr in 2019. He was leader of the Council until May 2025.

He loves music and the arts and is rarely seen without something to read. He is a season ticket holder at the Habbin North and is immensely proud to be a Trustee of the Foundation.

Danny Driver

Danny moved to Cambridge 11 years ago and has spent the past six years living in Barnwell, the community nearest to the Abbey Stadium and one of the city’s most disadvantaged areas.

He is the Vicar of Christ the Redeemer Church and previously served as chaplain to the Cambridge United U18s. Danny is also the SEND lead governor at The Galfrid Primary School.

Originally from Liverpool, he’s a passionate LFC supporter and enjoys watching or playing almost any sport. He is honoured to serve as a trustee of the Foundation, especially as its work brings people together, opens up opportunity, and helps tackle inequality across Cambridge.

Paul Schofield

Paul recently retired from a 35 year career as a financial auditor and advisor - latterly as a partner with a Big 4 firm where he held a number of leadership roles including heading up their Cambridge office for 11 years.

Paul has worked in and around Cambridge for 25 years and was one of the founding members of Cambridge Ahead.

He is married with two children and is a keen footballer. He first came to the Abbey for a game against Rotherham in the mid 1970s!

Paul feels strongly about the importance of the great work that the Foundation.

Alice Kempski

Alice is a sports development professional, currently leading women and girls grassroots football development at The FA.

As a former player of Cambridge United, she is deeply passionate about creating accessible and high quality opportunities for all females, and giving others the chance to benefit from community sport, like she did.

She continues to stay active mainly through CrossFit and chasing her energetic 4 year old around. She is proud to contribute to the Foundation’s mission as Board Member, making a difference in her home town, where she often returns to see her family.

Stephen Munday

Stephen's professional career was in education, specifically schools. He was a secondary school headteacher and went on to establish The Cam Academy Trust, a group of Primary and Secondary Schools mainly based in Cambridgeshire. He also undertook advisory work for the Education Department and was selected as the first ever President of the Chartered College of Teaching. He was awarded a CBE for services to education in 2013.

More recently, Stephen has worked with a local charity, Kickstart Coffee, to support a primary and secondary school in Entebbe, Uganda that provide education to young people and families on very low incomes. He is also involved in youth work in the Linton area, chairing the Trust Board of the Beacon Youth Trust.

He helped to establish the Education Ambassadors' Group that helps to advise the Foundation on all its work, current and future, with local schools.

Matt Winn

Chief Executive of the Cambridgeshire Community Services NHS Trust since 2007. Previously Director for Community Health and Senior Responsible Officer for the Ageing Well programme with NHS England/NHS Improvement.

Joanne Goodall

Joining board in December 2019, Joanne brings host of experience in income development for charities & experience of local authority. She currently works for Groundwork, a federation of charities mobilising practical community action on poverty and the environment across the UK.

Jonathon Bell

Jon is a Senior Director within the Business Development Operations group at AstraZeneca, focusing on Alliance Management.

He has 30 years’ experience in the Pharmaceutical Industry and plays an active role in working with AstraZeneca to design and deliver STEM programmes including the Active Science program through Cambridge United Foundation.

He is an active fund-raiser for Cambridge United Foundation and regularly supports the annual Sleepout as well as the London to Brighton ride.

Jon has lived in the Cambridge area all his life and swims for City of Cambridge Swimming Club’s Masters squad, representing the team at the GB and Swim England Masters championships.

He is married and has two grown up daughters.

Jim Hill

Jim moved from Surrey to Cambridgeshire back in the mid 1980s with a professional career focused upon manufacturing organisational design and production/manufacturing management.

Jim's been involved in football for near enough his whole life as both a referee and assistant referee where he covered a number of prestigious games during the 1980s and operated in referee training and development.

Jim also supported the FA with establishing and managing the operation of the referee assessment process for the mid tier section of the referee development pathway and Cambridgeshire FA with their football development activity that included development of facilities, girls and women's provision, coaching, disability provision, football for all and particularly safeguarding. He has also supported the Eastern Region Women's Football League with their management and currently hold the position of President.

Jim joined the board of trustees at the Foundation when the organisation was established and now focuses on safeguarding on behalf of the board, particularly developing our relations within the community safeguarding network.
