Support Cambridge United Foundation with Tesco Stronger Starts
20/01/26, 12:00
Cambridge United Foundation has been shortlisted for the ‘Tesco Stronger Starts’ customer vote; the vote will be running from January to March in selected Tesco stores across Cambridge.
All you need to do is pick up a blue token after checkout at one of the selected Tesco stores listed below and vote for our project in one of the voting boxes.
Our shortlisted project is ‘Mentoring in Addenbrooke’s’. This programme provides wellbeing and physical support for young cancer patients such as Millie…
Millie was just 11 years old when she was diagnosed with cancer. A keen footballer and academy player, sport had always been a huge part of her life. Suddenly, the extremely active young person she once was found herself confined to a hospital ward, Millie described her hospital bed as feeling ‘like a prison cell’.
Through our Mentoring at Addenbrooke’s programme, Millie began working with Kieran, the Foundation’s Youth Engagement Officer. For Millie, this support became transformational. Staying active not only supported her physical recovery but also had a profound impact on her mental wellbeing. It also gave her parents valuable moments of respite during an incredibly gruelling time.
Millie later underwent a life-changing amputation, losing her leg – a challenge that tested her resilience in unimaginable ways. Yet, through it all, she has continued to pursue her passion for football and sport.
Mentoring at Addenbrooke’s continues to change lives, but the programme is currently underfunded. We are now seeking a community sponsor to help ensure we can continue delivering this vital support to young people when they need it most. The Stronger Starts award will allow us to continue and expand this support, helping more young patients feel like themselves again during their hospital journey.
Every token counts and we’d really appreciate your support next time you’re in one of the below stores over the next few months. The winning project across all stores will receive up to £1,500 to support delivery of the project.
