Successful ‘Active Science’ pilot launches with NCA at AstraZeneca’s Discovery Centre
07/05/26, 15:00
Last Tuesday, 25 students from North Cambridge Academy were invited to AstraZeneca’s Discovery Centre as part of the Foundation and AstraZeneca’s ‘Active Science’ pilot with secondary school students.
The day started with a variety of active science-based activities in AstraZeneca’s Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA); including shooting basketballs from different points on the court to assess optimal performance for making shots, running with parachutes to assess wind resistance and inflating balloons to measure lung capacity.
Following the activities, students were taken to the Discovery Centre where they enjoyed a complimentary lunch before being taken on a tour of AstraZeneca’s impressive facilities and seeing real life science in action.
‘Active Science’ is a dedicated programme designed to get students involved in science using the power of sport, this pilot is a progression from our already successful sessions being run in primary schools.
The pilot will now be assessed further before delivery at other secondary schools, thank you to AstraZeneca for their help in creating a memorable day for the NCA students.
