Foundation Matchday: A winning day on and off the pitch
25/03/26, 12:00
On Saturday we held our annual matchday takeover, as members of Foundation staff and volunteers took to the stands of the Cledara Abbey Stadium to raise money and promote the charity.
We were delighted to be joined by special guests, Sports Minister Stephanie Peacock MP, who praised the Foundation as a ‘beacon of positive community action’, and Daniel Zeichner MP for Cambridge.
Joining our fundraising activities were a group of staff from long-term partners AstraZeneca, who hosted engaging ‘Active Science’ activities in the Kids’ Zone prior to kick-off, providing younger supporters with interactive scientific experiences to keep them entertained.
In the week leading up to the match we held a special online ‘silent auction’, where fans were invited to bid on special CUFC prizes including a signed shirt presented by the man of the match, hospitality packages and mascot packages. Thank you to everyone that took part and helped raise vital funs for the Foundation.
Aside from AstraZeneca’s activities, the Foundation also ran several special matchday experiences for supporters including an inflatable goal challenge, where fans were invited to test their finishing ability to beat scores set by Cambridge United men’s and women’s players Sullay Kaikai and Jade Bell.
Prior to kick off, first team players donned special Cambridge United Foundation warm-up t-shirts – promoting our ethos to “be aspirational, honest, resilient and inclusive”.
A 1-0 win for the U’s against Salford City followed, thanks to a bullet header from James Gibbons, ensuring a winning day both on and off the pitch for the club and the Foundation.
Thank you to everyone that helped to support our activities on the day and all the supporters that donated.
