Cambridge United Foundation hold largest Active Science Day to date
14/07/25, 11:00
Friday 11th of July marked the annual Active Science Day at Cambridge United – the biggest event to date, with 180 young people from The Galfrid, St Philip’s, Swaffham Bulbeck and Swaffham Prior Primary Schools taking part.
The day celebrates Cambridge United Foundation’s partnership with AstraZeneca on the six-week Active Science programme, which brings science to life through sport. Throughout the programme, pupils explored the effects of exercise on heart rate, tested wind resistance with running parachutes, and practised precision measuring using Gilson pipettes. For the first time this year, groups also visited AstraZeneca’s Discovery Centre and STEM Inspiration Lab on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus – a milestone for the initiative.
At Friday’s Active Science Day event, pupils rotated through hands-on sessions including:
A stadium tour and Cambridge United history workshop
A Q&A session with AstraZeneca scientists and CUWFC players
Personal, social and health education (PSHE) activities
Joining them on the day were CUWFC goalkeeper Sophie Schults and goalkeeper coach Sam Carrington, alongside Cambridge United Foundation and AstraZeneca teams.
