Mind Your Head underway after relaunch

Cambridge United Foundation have recently relaunched the popular 'Mind Your Head' programme; the programme ran most recently in 2023 and received the 'Community Project of the Year' award from the EFL in 2020. Mind Your Head is 6 week, early stage, Mental Health Intervention programme, designed to support young people with their own, and others, mental health.

In late July the programme was relaunched by Mental Health Officer Sam Carrington, he had the following to say about the programme:

"I have a great passion for supporting young people with their mental health, but equally, helping young people to support their friends and families. Leading the Mind Your Head programme provides me with the opportunity to contribute to the local community and give back to the community I grew up in."

Mind Your Head is an award-winning programme, with two simple targets. We want to develop young people’s understanding of Mental Health, and their ability to acknowledge changes with their own Mental Health. Alongside improving their confidence to have conversations around Mental Health as well as being comfortable to ask questions of their peers if they feel it is appropriate.

We believe that the support required for young people has changed since the inception of the programme. The initial programme was focused on informing and educating young people as to what Mental Health and Wellbeing is, and what may impact their Mental Health. Now, we are moving the programme forward with a focus on recognising the signs, symptoms and triggers of mental ill health, both individually and within their peer groups.

The target audience for the programme is Year 8 and 9 students, providing them with the knowledge of how to manage their mental wellbeing before they experience the increase in school pressure during their GCSE’s and growing outside influences.
