Men tend to have shorter lives than women, are more likely to smoke, drink alcohol and have a poor diet. Men also don’t want to make a fuss or talk about what is bothering them and often delay getting help. The good news is that men increasingly care about their health and can, with small changes, make a big difference to their health and wellbeing.

Cambridge United Foundation, with its partners, is looking to raise awareness amongst men about common health issues, promote activity to get them moving, encourage them to have conversations with each other, and identify pathways to receive help. The local partnership comes together in the Cambridge Men’s Health Steering Group that meets monthly to steer this work.

The event will be held at the Meadows Community Centre in North Cambridge. The address is 299 Arbury Road, Cambridge, CB4 2JL. The centre is a short walk from the guided busway at Orchard Park and is 10 minutes from the city centre on the Stagecoach Bus 1 route. Visit Traveline for public-transport timetables. There is a car park next to the centre but there is an hourly charge, on street parking is available in the nearby St. Albans Road.

The Event

The event consists of a Health Fair in the Main Hall involving a range of local organisations highlighting issues affecting men, presenting information about local services and opportunities to find out more about health and wellbeing issues.

At the end of the Main Hall there will a table tennis table for people who want to demonstrate their Ping-Pong prowess and other activities to keep people moving.

Workshops will be available in rooms adjacent to the Main Hall, with health checks taking place in a separate side room.

Attendees will be able to complete a "Men’s Health Questionnaire" which they can return at the end of the event for the chance to win prizes.
