In conjunction with our Foundation Match Day, we are celebrating two of our Community Heroes as a part of this years EFL awards. We have nominated Simon Wall and Becca Gage for their contributions and their passion and commitment shown through their interaction with our community programmes.

Simon Wall

Cambridge United Football Club and Foundation would like to recognise the Foundation’s Community Engagement Manager, Simon Wall, for his dedication to the Club and his local community. Simon joined the Foundation in 2016 and his passion for education, sport and helping others has been central to the growth of the work of the Foundation over the years. Simon lives a walk away from the football club and is committed to making a difference in the Abbey Ward. Simon is a critical part in hosting our Premier League KICKS sessions with school children, Forever United project with older adults, our annual sleepout fundraiser, and our holiday camps, plus much more. Simon also implemented the first AstraZeneca Active Science programme, he has dedicated thousands of hours to delivering meals, hosting bootcamps, and doing garden gate check-ins with vulnerable adults during covid, and providing lifesaving CPR to one of our walking football participants, saving his life before paramedics arrived.

“Thank you, Simon, to you and your team for all your hard work over the last year, if it wasn’t for all the effort you put in there would be many lonely and unhappy pensioners”

Becca Gage

Becca has fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue and struggles with her mental health on occasion. To support her son’s passion for football, she joined our weekly mental health football sessions. Becca is well-known for her efforts in our sessions and is a key member of the wider Foundation family. She always provides brilliant support and encouragement to her teammates and we are delighted to recognise her determination and resilience as a Community Hero on Foundation Matchday.

“I can wake up in the worst mood ever, but I know if I can get myself to the pitch and be around my team, they motivate me. I know that I am going to have a good time with positive people around me.”
