On Tuesday 2nd April 2024, PL Kicks participants were given the chance to represent Cambridge United at the regional qualifiers for the U16 Premier League Kicks Cup held in Colchester. One girls’ team and one boys team took part in the competition against other CCO teams from Norwich, Luton Town, Stevenage, Peterborough United, MK Dons and Colchester United.

Throughout the day our players demonstrated positive behaviour, supporting players and other teams, and promoting good sportsmanship overall. This was rewarded when the girls team won the competitions fair play award, achieving the maximum score possible and qualifying for the National Cup.

Alongside the football matches, the participants completed some education workshops that focused on Knife Crime, Football Hooliganism and Mental Health awareness. They engaged well and asked questions on each topic taking an interest in the content provided.

The official Premier League trophy was also present on the day, and our two teams were able to take some photos with it, as well as some individual ones for themselves. All participants at the event also received a Nike Premier League hoodie. All of our players said they were very grateful to be chosen to attend and had a great time despite some challenging matches. One participant commented how much they had learnt from watching other players and it has inspired her to join a local team.
