On Thursday 14th March, the Norwich City FC Nest laid host to the Premier League Primary Stars Under-11 Girls Football Tournament. Cambridge United’s representation put on a great showing of football and sportsmanship, which was acknowledged with them receiving the Fair Play Award.

Barton Church of England Primary School were selected as the representatives of Cambridge United Foundation and the annual PLPS tournament. Norwich City Foundation hosted the event at the football clubs facility – The Nest.

The team was selected from Barton C of E, based on their participation in an after-school girls football club, in which they demonstrated an excellent work ethic and showcasing Cambridge United Foundation’s values on and off the pitch.

The tournament focusses on the PLPS values – Be Ambitious, Be Inspiring, Be Connected and Be Fair, and saw the girls take part in a workshop tackling gender stereotypes, especially in football. After the workshop, the girls went head-to-head in a football tournament, in which they faced the representatives of other Football Foundations within the region.

The girls of Barton C of E did Cambridge United Foundation proud and were awarded the Fair Play Award by the Premier League Charitable Fund representatives to recognise their superb attitude and sporting behaviour towards the other teams.
